A Story of Speaking Up by Michael Montenegro
Growing up, I was to taught to be quiet because speaking up, causes problems.
When we got dictated in grade school, I wanted to speak up.
When we were pushed out of our neighborhood, I wanted to speak up.
When our temple got violated in lust, I wanted to speak up.
When our identity was decided by the oppressor, I didn’t know what to speak of.
When I finally… learned the truth, I spoke up.
I told a friend, we spoke up, then I told another, and we spoke up.
Then I said, I will speak up.
